Writers may be interested in Tips on Writing Children's Books, a workshop with Michael Katz, publisher of Tradewind Books (Vancouver).
Recent titles include Honeycake, The King has Goat Ears and Abby's Birds, all among the company's over 30 publishing awards since 1994. This workshop is an overall introduction to writing for children and covers the answers to: what makes a good story? What makes a good book? (length, format, focus, voice).
Also included is a general discussion of getting your book illustrated and what the industry expects when you pitch a children's book. The workshop is on Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. Contact Caitlin Hicks at 604-886-3634 for more information, or to sign up. Local master beekeeper Allan Cobbin from Roberts Creek will join members of the Beekeepers' Association for an after-the-film discussion. Reserve a spot by going to greenfilms.ca.
