On Saturday, July 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. FibreWorks Gallery invites you to the opening reception of Exploration: Colour and Line by Patt Wilson of Powell River. The artist will be at FibreWorks for the opening and it’s a great opportunity to meet her and explore her work.
Also at FibreWorks, the Weaver’s Circle with Mary Bentley continues on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing an opportunity for weavers to work with Bentley and learn from her expertise. Beginners to experienced are welcome. Drop-in fee is $10.
Spin-In takes place on the last Tuesday of each month. Be part of creating a spinners’ circle in the studio and share spinning and fibre tales. Everyone is welcome, and bring a potluck dish to share. Music weekend
Music in the Landing starts this weekend at the Gibsons Farmers’ Market from 4 to 6 p.m. with a family trio of Noah Ord, fiddle, Graham Ord, flute and soprano sax, and Anna Lumiere, accordion. From 7 to 8 p.m. the music moves to the gazebo on the wharf for the Gong(s) Show as Sarah and Rodin Columb, Viviane Houle, Anna Lumiere, Graham Ord and Barry Taylor create sounds over the water. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pioneer Square, Dave Philley will sing tunes from the past, then bring your lawn chairs and blankets Saturday evening to Winegarden Waterfront Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. as virtuoso guitar and multi-instrumentalist Celso Machado entertains with his irresistible rhythms. Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sun Dial Stage, next to the Gibsons Sunday Market, JustUs with Dave Roughley and Michelle Moran, guitars and vocals, and Michael Munroe, drums, will fill the air with tunes from the ’60s to ’90s.
Sechelt music
On Saturday, July 18 the Sechelt Summer Music series continues at noon on the garden stage outside the library with the Steve Weave Trio, then at 2 p.m. Definitely Diva performs. See: www.district.sechelt.bc.ca for a schedule of music events.
Shades of Grey
Sunshine Coast artists were given the challenge to get out the grey scale and start creating. And they did. The jury met, and 51 local artists were selected for a multi-disciplinary exhibition at the Doris Crowston Gallery in the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, 5714 Medusa at Trail in Sechelt. Works cover a kaleidoscope of artistic expression including: drawing, painting, photography, stone and metal sculpture, fabric work, and digital media. The exhibit will coincide in August with the Festival of the Written Arts, the Hackett Park Arts and Craft Fair and the Power of Paint exhibit at the nearby Seaside Centre. Laugh a lot
Laughter Club with “fun-silly-tator” Jill Shatford is on Tuesday evenings in July and August from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come join in at the Roberts Creek mandala if it is sunny, or in the gazebo behind the Roberts Creek Library, if it is raining. Reduce your stress and relax with laughter games, simple “anyone can do it” improv games, gratitude circle, acceptance and open-hearted fun. Strait Sound Studio offers a rich night of music (www.straitsound.com) when Sara Fitzpatrick and Sarah Noni perform their newest musical duo project on Friday, July 24. Art Crawl sign-up
The Coast Cultural Alliance is excited to announce sign-up time for the 2015 Sunshine Coast Art Crawl, Oct. 16, 17, 18. After a very successful 2014 Crawl, they look forward to your participation again this year. Because of the event’s popularity, they suggest you get your confirmation, payment and info in by the deadline of Aug. 1. Venues must again be open all three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New this year: the Crawl will extend from Langdale to Earl’s Cove, and Powell River artists will be showing as a 16-plus artists group for the three days at Roberts Creek Hall. More Crawlers will be able to view the amazing works from this segment of the Sunshine Coast arts community.
