The S.C. Arts Council presents multi-media artist Solveigh Bremer Harrison with her exhibition entitled Estuary. Concurrently, Saanichton photographer Ger Cawdell exhibits Salmon Corpses. These exhibits are at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre from May 3 to 28.

Harrison has lived beside an estuary in Pender Harbour for more than 40 years. It seems natural that the focus of her exhibition is on examining nature in the wetlands and tidal flats of Pender Harbour and reflecting on the sub-surface rhythms of seasonal cycles.

"My art deals with the interplay of the fixed and the fluid, the world within and without," said Harrison. "Ours is a fragile planet, an estuary of sorts. In this body of work, I celebrate the infinite possibilities of change and transformation."

Cawdell is originally from Halifax. He obtained his BSc in biology from Univer-sity of Victoria in 1992 and has been exploring photography since 1988. He has been photographing salmon corpses since 1992 and only recently has captured their bodies in black and white. By eliminating the distraction of colour he sees what really exists, placing the focus on nature's design. "I represent the world as seen with natural light, capturing the ambient highlight and shadow of the moment, often in subdued light. I wish to convey to the viewer the truth in nature at the time of my presence," he said.

An artists reception is 7 to 9 p.m. May 3 at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre Gallery. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
