Coming to Sechelt, Wood Dreams and Lightning and the 'insanely unexpected beauty' of three virtuosos: Michael Waters' acoustic chill guitar, Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos, playing the profound flute style of the centuries-old Shakuhatchi tradition and Allannah Dow, with her 100-year-old cello 'Sebastian.
The resulting sound is unlike anything describable - and deeply enchanting and transcending!
Ramos is one of the foremost teachers and performers of shakuhachi in North America. He has taught and performed all over North America, Europe, and Japan and pursues an active solo as well as collaborative career and has shared the stage with many distinguished artists such as John McLaughlin, Bill Laswell, Toshinori Kondo, Hun Huur Tuu and the Mongolian Throat Singers.
Dow spent more than 30 years playing cello in a classical and orchestral environment, mostly in London, England. A spiritual quest and desire to sing her own song led her to a unique and heavenly style. Her voice and cello combine to produce a spontaneous outpouring that carries the listener to the rainbowed heart of the sacred cello.
Since Waters started playing publicly he has assembled some of the most eclectic musicians on the coast for uniquely powerful shows. His own pathway was to play the guitar as a spiritual practice, only writing his first compositions after 20 years of playing, and only beginning to perform publicly at 50 years of age. His hypnotic grooves and melodies defy genre-boxing.
They will perform on Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at St Hilda's Anglican Church in Sechelt. Tickets are $20, available at the door. Come and enjoy an exceptional evening of acoustic artistry and expressive brilliance, dance and journey.
