On May 5, the Elphinstone Secondary School senior band performed at the Whistler Music Festival, receiving great accolades from the adjudicators there. The festival featured bands, choirs and jazz bands from schools in B.C., Alberta, Washington and Oregon.
The senior band, a group of 33 students from grades nine to 12 at Elphi, received a very high mark and a gold standing. The three adjudicators who graded the group were particularly impressed with the mature sound from such a young group. The weekend wrapped up with a massed band performance made up of 1,300 players in the Telus Conference Centre.
