Running from now until March 29, the Doris Crowston Gallery at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre presents two exhibitions: Bridging Worlds by Gibsons artist Simon Haiduk and Moments of Bliss by Vancouver artist Christopher Marrapese.

Haiduk is showing works that are specific pieces ranging from an extreme cosmic nature to a more grounded and earthly aspect of divinity."Showing a bridge between these worlds seems to make it easier for people to recognize as something from our physical plane in connection to the ethereal," Haiduk said. "In my artistic process for this work, I aim to reflect this unifying life source in order to harmonize our beings with that which we often take for granted."

The works Marrapese is bringing to the Sunshine Coast are canvases that create a place for viewers to reflect, wonder and dream.

"The geometric compositions and colour harmonies of this exhibition trace my efforts to make a place where my dreams come true," said Marrapese. "This exhibition includes the latest expressions of work started in 2004. I rely on constant sketching and collage to simplify the painting process. Painting is a time for fast decisive action unencumbered by doubts. My best work happens quickly in moments of bliss when plan, passion and instinct act as one." The Sunshine Coast Arts Council is a volunteer-based society founded Feb. 22, 1966 to raise the profile of local artists and artisans and to broaden the opportunities for Sunshine Coast citizens to enjoy and to participate in cultural activities. The S.C. Arts Council owns and operates the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre located at 5714 Medusa at Trail in Sechelt, and over the years the Centre has been a vital resource for the artistic and cultural life of the Coast community.

In 2008 the main gallery section of the building was dedicated and named after Doris Crowston, a long-time moving force behind the establishment of the Gallery. Her family has created an endowment fund at the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation for the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre Gallery in her name.
