The final concert of the DoReTEA season is set for next Friday, June 27, at 3 p.m. at Living Faith Lutheran Church in Davis Bay featuring flute and guitar fusion, Libertango.
The duo, Julie Rutter and Paul Pinsonnault, named themselves after Piazzolla’s landmark piece, Libertango, which blends the Argentinian tango with harmonies of modern jazz. This concert’s main course features contemporary Latin music with a smattering of 20th century French — and for dessert, Celtic sounds from the British Isles. After the concert, ticket holders will be treated to an afternoon cream tea with homemade scones, strawberry jam and lemon curd, a joint effort with the Phillip & I B&B.
Born and educated in England, Rutter received diplomas with first class honours and distinction in flute and piano. She has given many recitals in concert series and music festivals, and her first CD with twin sister Val was nominated for Best Classical Album in the West Coast Music Awards.
Pinsonnault holds three degrees and was the first person to receive a masters degree in guitar performance at the University of British Columbia — an achievement which he still remembers well.
He has performed in many ensembles over the last three decades.
The concert will include his two teenage guitar-playing sons, who have been performing with their father as the Pinsonnault Trio for the last three years.
It may be your last chance to hear them play together on the Coast as his eldest son will be off to study in September.
The intimate space of Living Faith Lutheran Church forces the concert to limit the audience to 40 ticket holders. Tickets that include the cream tea are $25, available at Swish in Gibsons, the Sechelt Visitor Centre, EarthFair Store in Madeira Park and at the door, or reserve by calling Lisa at 604-741-9943. If you wish concert-only tickets for $15 you must reserve with Lisa.
