At a sold out performance, the second concert of the Do Re TEA series at Living Faith Lutheran Church, the little white church in Davis Bay, Gemini shared their mastery of the flute, recorder and piano and their genuine love and joy of music making with the audience.
An English cream tea with light and flaky homemade scones and strawberry jam was enjoyed afterwards. The afternoon was a huge success with compliments all around to the musicians, the cooks from the Phillip & I B&B and the servers.
Next Friday, June 28, the third and last concert of this series will feature the Coast's newest duo, Libertango, at 3 p.m. Guitarist Paul Pinsonnault and flautist Julie Rutter, who performed in the Gemini duo, will combine the warmth and richness of the guitar and shimmering sound of the flute to create a vibrant and versatile ensemble with an exciting and colourful palette.
Born and educated in England, Rutter received diplomas with first class honours and distinction in flute and piano. She has given many recitals in concert series and music festivals and her first CD with twin sister Val was nominated for best classical album in the West Coast Music Awards.
Pinsonnault holds three degrees including a masters in classical guitar performance from UBC and has performed in many ensembles over the last three decades, including the Pinsonnault Trio with his two guitar-playing sons.
Libertango came into existence when one of Rutter's sons began studying guitar with Pinsonnault and one of his sons began piano studies with Rutter - a perfect arrangement. It seemed an obvious next step for Rutter and Pinsonnault to join forces.
The intimate space of Living Faith forces the concert to limit the audience to 40 ticket holders. Tickets that include the cream tea are $20, available at Laedeli in Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons, the Sechelt Visitor Centre, Bluewaters Books in Madeira Park, at the door, or reserve by calling Lisa at 604-741-9943.
