She was recently honoured with an appointment to the Order of Canada for her contribution to children’s music and the education of young children. See www.charlottediamond.com to hear the new songs. Halloween season

It’s a night to kick off the Halloween season with the live music of Blackberry Wood and DJ Ole Fashion. Performances are by members of the Caravan of Creeps and there are lots of chances to dance the night away when you come out to the Darkside of the Circus at the Gibsons Legion #109 on Saturday, Oct. 22. Doors open at 8 p.m. and costumes are encouraged. In theatre and many facets of entertainment a “dark night” is one where nothing happens on stage, but this dark night is the spookier side of the Circus. Tickets are online at Vtix.com or at WOW Gallery in Sunnycrest Mall.

This weekend

The Art Crawl opens this Friday and runs through the weekend from Langdale to Earl’s Cove – from No. 1, the Klaywerk Studio on the Art Crawl map guide, to No. 130, Laughing Hummingbird Arts. Pick up a map guide at your favourite gallery or see sunshinecoastartcrawl.com

Photo display

An ongoing display, Local Inspirations, is featured at the London Drugs photo counter in Gibsons. Images by a local photographer are on show for about a month, along with a picture and brief bio of the photographer. Local nature photographer Sheila Weaver is this month’s featured artist.

Visions of Home

Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG) sent out a call to its members suggesting that they submit an original work of art on the theme Visions of Home. Artists responded warmly and over 40 submissions were received. These works are being exhibited from Oct. 20 through Nov. 5, prior to a grand auction (and a silent auction) on Nov. 5. Proceeds will be divided into thirds between the artist, GPAG and Habitat for Humanity. The format for the 2016 exhibition has been adapted to recognize the huge demand placed on local artists for contributions to fundraising. The Gallery would like to recognize and draw attention to the incredible generosity of our local artists in supporting the work of non-profit groups in our community. Tickets for the Nov. 5 gala event and auction are available at GPAG and at the Habitat ReStore in Sechelt for $40.
