Students of classical music wishing to enrich their education are invited to apply to the Coast Recital Society's (CRS) 2009 scholarship program. Deadline for applications is Feb. 27.
CRS scholarships are open to Sunshine Coast students, 25 years or younger, who are studying classical music. Applicants must complete the application form available from the CRS office or downloaded as a PDF file from the CRS website: www.coastrecitalsociety.ca. The application must include the student's music education and experience, a description of how the scholarship money will be used and an unedited recording by the applicant of approximately 10 minutes duration, including at least two works chosen from the following classical music categories: baroque era (1685 to 1750); classical era (1750 to 1820); romantic era (1820 to 1890); post-romantic / 21st century.
CRS artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright said the scholarship program is an important part of the society's community activities for young people. "Our aim is to open their ears and minds to the joys of classical music by making available student tickets to CRS concerts, by bringing our CRS artists to primary and secondary schools on the Coast and by providing music scholarships to students - at all levels - to encourage the study of classical music," she said. "CRS scholarships have paid for music lessons, sheet music, instruments and post-secondary school music studies."
More than 100 Sunshine Coast music students have received financial assistance via CRS scholarships since 1998.
Applications can be mailed to Coast Recital Society, PO Box 1010, Sechelt, BC V0N 3A0, or brought to the CRS office, located above the Royal Bank, at Suite 209, 5760 Teredo St., Sechelt before the deadline. For more information, call 604-885-0991, or email [email protected].
