Dance to the Flow of Life

The Sunshine Coast Dance Society (SCDS) presents Gail Lotenberg, artistic director for LINK Dance in Vancouver, as the recipient of the eighth annual SCDS residency program.

The Sunshine Coast Dance Society (SCDS) presents Gail Lotenberg, artistic director for LINK Dance in Vancouver, as the recipient of the eighth annual SCDS residency program. This will be an exciting opportunity for Lotenberg to come to the Coast and work at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse, present her latest choreographic creation to a welcoming Coast audience, and inspire a select group of advanced Coast dancers during a three-day workshop.

Themed FLOW, the program promises an eclectic group of contemporary dance performances inspired by the natural elements all around us and will explore the connection between social movement, science and physical motion.

Since 2003, the SCDS has offered visiting choreographers and performance artists across Canada an opportunity to come to the beautiful Sunshine Coast for a week to practise and present their latest creative works. At the end of the week, Lotenberg and her dancers will unveil a new contemporary dance piece entitled Testing Perception. Also featured will be Earth, a new work in collaboration with Sylvain Brochu, the Coast's own nationally acclaimed dance artist.

Yukon-born and Vancouver-based, LINK Dance is socially relevant and dialogue-driven. Artistic director and native New Yorker, Lotenberg is a recognized choreographer, dancer and contemporary movement instructor. She uses energetic, creative engagement to generate her choreography.

The workshop will run three evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 14 to 16, at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse. A total of 10 advanced level dancers will be accepted. Workshop cost is $85 and will be followed by two public performances on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. To register for the workshop, email: [email protected] or call 604-740-3134.
