Although fibre art has been created for thousands of years, its qualities have not been appreciated by the public until recently, when galleries have been removing paintings from their walls and replacing them with textile art that is dimensional and demanding to be touched. Add the contrast of shiny, textured glass united with the fibre, complementing the warm tactile fibre by its hard, shiny, and uncompromising surface and adding colour in a new way to the work.

Newington, from Calgary, Alta., has created a body of work that is light-hearted and inspired by her travels in Yukon. Phone 604-885-5412 for hours of opening or see: www.scartscouncil.com.
