Concert in beachfront home

What to do with a big house when you're a musician? Why not invite all your friends to your living room to hear guest musicians perform in an intimate setting. That's why singer/songwriter Lowry Olafson likes house concerts.

What to do with a big house when you're a musician? Why not invite all your friends to your living room to hear guest musicians perform in an intimate setting. That's why singer/songwriter Lowry Olafson likes house concerts. He likes to perform in intimate spaces and be close to his audience. Ever since renovating his heritage home in Gibsons, he's hosted several in-home concerts for musicians he's met on tour or at the famous Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. Audiences, invited by personal invitation, have packed the place.

This Saturday, May 15, at 7 p.m., Olafson will be the featured performer in another in-home concert, this time at a stunning, beachfront private house in Roberts Creek. He is inviting 50 people to buy a ticket at $20 each as a fund-raiser for the Sunshine Coast Garden Botanical Society, the organization that hopes to create an outstanding garden with an ecological vision as an attraction to visitors and the community.

Olafson is a skilled musician and storyteller who has studied violin since the age of nine. He was a member of the Regina Junior Symphony and soon added guitar and song-writing to his musical accomplishments. He's toured internationally and is now at work on his seventh CD, Solid Ground. For the house concert, the audience will enter through a unique gateway and will be seated indoors with a panoramic view of garden, beach and distant mountains. The location of this house and garden will be a secret to all but ticket holders of the event. Tickets are not available at the usual outlets. Call Virginia Cleary at 604-886-5301 for tickets and info.
