Harp selection
A new resident to West Sechelt, Sharone Stevenson, has just received news that one of her original music compositions for the harp will be premiered by Miya Otake’s Harp Ensemble at the Kiwanis Music Festival on May 9 in Langley.
The harp music, named Fairy Footprints, is from her published collection of solo harp music called Healing Harmony — Essence of Joy.
Stevenson said after spending three years in Chilliwack before she and her husband moved to the Coast, she attended several practices with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra Harp Ensemble. At that time, Otake, an internationally famous concert harpist from Vancouver and leader of the group, along with the Chilliwack Symphony Conductor Paula DeWitt, asked Stevenson if they could use this piece for their harp ensemble.
She immediately set about arranging the music for three harps, which also could be used for a larger group of harpists. In her collection is a poem that is descriptive of the music, and at her suggestion a trained voice will recite the poem conveying the mood and inspiring the imagination of the audience.
