The Coast String Fiddlers travelled to Kelowna to play the closing concert of the Kelowna Community Concert Series April 25.

The near-capacity audience (800 people), accustomed to professional groups, greatly enjoyed the enthusiasm and variety with which Coastal audiences are familiar. In other words, it was a foot-stompin' good time.

Yvonne Topf, president, and the other members of the Kelowna Concert Association, graciously provided everything to make the fiddlers feel welcome. It was a particular pleasure to play in the outstanding community theatre and good preparation for playing in upcoming similar venues in Aberdeen, Scotland in August. A great surprise was the presentation of a donation of $1,000 towards the Scotland trip by the Kelowna Concert Association. They are committed to supporting and encouraging young musicians, and the Coast String Fiddlers are thankful for their generosity.

The fiddlers will spend 10 days at the prestigious Aberdeen International Youth Festival Aug. 3 to 13, playing in large concert halls and small venues in the surrounding towns. Fundraising continues with upcoming local concerts and raffles.
