Coast rockers home from U.S. tour

Mindil Beach Markets

Mindil Beach Markets (MBM) is home after a ground-breaking tour to San Deigo and back. The West Coast tour covered 5,000 kilometres with 13 shows in 23 days including stops in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, San Jose, Monterey, Hollywood, Anaheim, Oceanside and San Fransiscio.

Guitarist Matt Posnikoff (Possie) said, "When we weren't playing or travelling, we were at the local pier, mall or university meeting people and handing out free CDs."

Guitarist/lead singer Pat Codere, added "We gave away 5,000 CDs, met lots of cool people and made great connections for future tours. Somehow we found time to add five videos to our popular YouTube channel youtube.com/mindilbeachmarkets."

Propelling MBM's unique sound is their array of vocal talent: two singers and a rapper, each bringing a distinct element to their repertoire. This diversity has given them the opportunity to be billed with an array of bands including Mother Mother, AWOL Nation, Broken Social Scene, USS, Hollerado, Del la Soul, Blackalicious, Del the Funky Homosapien and Bedouin Soundclash.

Their live shows pulsate a party vibe and many songs deliver heartfelt and meaningful lyrics. On Machines, guitarist/lead singer Daniel (DK) Kingsbury asks: "Lord won't you be telling me, what happened to the honeybees? Tell me why the money tree is the only one preserved." The band's concern for the environment motivated them to choose the jellyfish as their logo to symbolize the declining health of our oceans.

DK said, "We all grew up within a stone's throw of the Pacific Ocean and spent much of our childhood on beaches and in the water. These experiences planted seeds that have grown into a passionate desire to contribute to our planet by spreading awareness about our oceans' current state of crisis, and to offer suggestions of ways people can take part in its healing. People who share our concern should visit our web site mindilbeachmarkets.com and read about the jellyfish project."
