After an exciting spring, including a run in The Fox Seeds Competition and a tour of B.C., Mindil Beach Markets are home on the Sunshine Coast for a pair of performances this weekend.
Mindil rocks an original blend of genres, including rock, reggae and hip hop.
The first free show is at The Lighthouse Pub in Sechelt tonight (Friday). Two acts from Calgary, Jenny and Inner City Elegance, will kick off the night at 9 p.m. then MBM will follow with two full sets of music.
The second show is a set at Synchronicity Festival on Saturday at Shirley Macey Park in Gibsons. Entering its second year, Synchronicity aims to showcase the diversity of progressive and innovative people that live and work amongst us; farmers, artists, artisans, change-makers and social entrepreneurs. Mindil Beach will play at 7:45 p.m. to be followed by The Colorifics.
Propelling MBM's unique sound is their array of vocal talent, two singers and a rapper, each bringing a distinct element to their repertoire. This diversity has given them the opportunity to be billed with a wide array of bands including Nazareth, Del the Funky Homosapien, Katchafire, City and Colour, Cold War Kids, and Bedouin Soundclash.
Throughout June, MBM drove a massive campaign to win the Fox Seeds Competition, a radio contest hosted by Vancouver's 99.3 The Fox.
The campaign was supported by a tour of B.C., during which they handed out 25,000 business cards with links to their music and voting instructions.
After fan voting, MBM was in the top 50 out of 345 bands. The judges narrowed the competition to 20 and the band was given the opportunity to perform.
MBM packed the house and put on an astonishing performance. Ultimately, they did not make the top three.
"We gave it 100 per cent and we don't have any regrets," said guitarist/lead singer, Pat Codere. "Sure, it would have been nice to make the top three, but at the end of the day, the outcome is not important. We made an impact on the province and we had a blast doing it."
Although the live show pulsates a party vibe, many songs deliver heartfelt and meaningful lyrics. Each member was immersed in music from a very young age and with that passion MBM reaches only for the top.
