Coast nominees up for awards

Two Sunshine Coast authors have been nominated in the 25th annual B.C. Book Prize awards.

Two Sunshine Coast authors have been nominated in the 25th annual B.C. Book Prize awards.

Andreas Schroeder from Roberts Creek has been nominated in the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, awarded to the author of the best work of fiction, for his book Renovating Heaven. Sechelt author Chieri Uegaki has been nominated for the Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize presented to the best illustrated book written for children.

Harbour Publishing is also celebrating after several of their books were also nominated. They include: Simon Fraser: In Search of Modern British Columbia by Stephen Hume and British Columbia: Spirit of the People by Jean Barman.

Fraser has been shortlisted for the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize, which recognizes books that most contribute to the enjoyment and understanding of B.C., and British Columbia: Spirit of the People has been shortlisted for the BC Booksellers' Choice Award, which recognizes the book with the most public appeal, initiative, design, production and content. Each award comes with a certificate and a $2,000 cash prize.

The awards, handed out annually by the West Coast Book Prize Society, will be announced at the Lieutenant Governor's B.C. Book Prizes Gala on April 25 at the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel in Vancouver.

Before that evening, all of the nominees - who collectively will receive $14,000 in cash prizes - will be celebrated at a free event, the B.C. Book Prize Soirée, on April 18 at the Metropolitan Hotel.
