Chat grads dance to Mexico

Two Chatelech Secondary School graduates are dancing their way into an exciting career move.

The two young women, Erika Wrightman and Rachel Berinstein, who have both studied at the Coast Academy of Dance in Sechelt, will soon be winging their way to a Mexican resort on the Mayan Riviera where they will perform in a dance show every night. "The choreographer specializes in hip hop and salsa," Wrightman said, "But I think we'll be doing some traditional Mexican dancing and everything else - modern, ballet, jazz and tap." The sports and entertainment resort is two hours from Cancun in an area noted for its reef diving.

Another former Chat student, Stuart Wilson, is already dancing at another Mexican resort, selected through a Canadian-based talent agency Get Up and Go Global. Reports are that Wilson is working hard and loves it. "This is exciting. It's a really big step," Wrightman said. It's their first professional contract and it happened very quickly for the women who say that dance is their career goal. Their jazz dance instructor, Darlene Wolfe, suggested the agency, while Academy head Julie Izad phoned to check it out and to give their applications a nudge to the top of the pile. "They have a lot of talent; they certainly deserve it," Izad said.

The two last performed in Sechelt during the Coast Academy recital of Timeless Dance in June.
