The Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival opens its series of six classical music concerts on Aug. 18, running until Aug. 21, in the intimate setting of the School of Music in Madeira Park. Power of Paint
Power of Paint, a show of original work from the Eleven Equal Artists, opens this Friday, Aug. 12, and runs until Aug. 14 at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. Artist Ian MacLeod, one of the Eleven, created some original art cards with the goal of raising money for the Emergency Cold Weather Shelter at St. Hilda’s Church in Sechelt. He’ll be selling the cards at the Power of Paint Exhibition and 100 per cent of the funds will be donated to the S.C. Community Services Society. The opening reception is Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., show runs Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Coffee House
This Friday, Aug. 12, the School of Music Coffee House will host another evening of great entertainment with the Blue Line Trio featuring Dr. Fun. Hear old time acoustic blues, western swing, gypsy jazz, newgrass and classic folk songs. Also appearing is the Robin Atchison/Nelson Giles Duo with a singer/songwriter/guitarist plus harmonica on original folk, blues, country and rock. Coffee and goodies will be sold. Suggested donation at the door is $10 at the School of Music in Madeira Park. The Coffee House is on the second Friday of the month. Gunnars art
During the month of August, the Landing Gallery Co-op (436 Marine Drive, Gibsons) is presenting See the Sea, a collaboration between co-op members Nell Burns and Ruth Rodgers, as both artists have created work inspired by the ocean theme in the past. In addition to this show is another exhibit, Perceptions, by Kristjana Gunnars in the Show Room from Aug. 9 to 23. It’s a selection of paintings that highlights the way we see things through tangles and washes of colour with a heightened sense of energy.
Rock out
Playback, the classic rock band, is at the Sechelt Legion on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Dance! Rock out! C’mon! Ten dollars at the door.

Flamenco
Direct from Seville, Spain: Fin de Fiesta Flamenco dance and music ensemble presents Audacia, a bold new production that explores the many sides of one of the world’s most passionate and intense art forms: flamenco. Texada art
Texada’s visual artists are an eclectic bunch, equalling the wildness and diversity of the island’s natural surroundings. Sunshine Coast residents are invited to hop across the strait Aug. 13 and 14 for the third biennial Texada Artists Studio Tour (TAST).
More than 20 artists are exhibiting in 14 studios, which are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days of the tour. Admission is free. Creative at the Gumboot
Creative in the Creek is on Thursday, Aug. 18 with doors opening at 7 p.m., showtime at 7:30, at the Gumboot Café in Roberts Creek. It’s hosted by the versatile David Roche, with guitarist Kevin Broome, Moments of Grace story-tellers Gerry Hills and Micheal Oswald, and Erica Snowlake on the Roberts Creek mandala – plus an appearance by God! All in all, it’s a feast of community creativity from your friends and neighbours. Donations are welcome at the door.
