Cabane à sucre was a sweet day

About 160 people participated in this year’s Cabane à Sucre (traditional French-Canadians maple sugar shack party) held Sunday, March 8 at the Sechelt Indian Band Hall in Sechelt.

The sold-out event was a big hit with all ages of the Sunshine Coast community, with live music, great food and, of course, the crowd’s favourite: hot maple taffy poured out on snow in the traditional way and rolled up on popsicle sticks. Organizers plan to do it all again next year. Watch for it in the early spring!

The team of organizers included: Noëlline Bellemare, Cécile Desgagné, Michel Frenette, Lisseth Lauzon, Gabriella McGreal and Herve Meyer.

Pictured are volunteer students, parents, Francophone community members and staff of école du Pacifique dishing out the eggs, ham, meat pies and tourtière du Saguenay Lac-St-Jean, and Matea Bellavance, a Grade 5 student at École du Pacifique, enjoying the maple taffy on snow.
