The Pentaèdre Wind Ensemble makes its Coast Recital Society (CRS) debut this Sunday afternoon, Jan. 22, at 2:30 p.m., with a pre-concert chat at 1:30 p.m. at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt.

The members of Pentaèdre are: Danièle Bourget, flute; Normand Forget, oboe;Martin Carpentier, clarinet; Mathieu Lussier, bassoon; and Louis-Philippe Marsolais, horn. The five superb Pentaèdre musicians perform frequently with L'Orchestre Métropolitan du Grand Montréal and Les Violons du Roy. Known internationally for their exceptional playing, the Pentaèdre soloists are past masters of balance and blend. The ensemble has performed in Eastern Canada's major festivals and toured extensively in Quebec, Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Under the artistic direction of Marsolais since 2005, the quintet players are celebrated for the talent, technique, precision and colour they bring to their concerts.

A unique musical ensemble in the Canadian landscape, Pentaèdre explores diversified and original chamber music repertoire, developed in the tradition of music for winds. Pentaèdre's chamber version by Normand Forget of Schubert's Winterreise, was awarded CD of the Year 2008 Opus Prize by the Conseil québécois de la musique and received the exceptional Stern des Monats (Star of the Month)from the German magazine Fono Forum.

The CRS concert will feature a program of music that highlights lesser known works by Ligeti, Barber, Briccialdi and Paquito D'Rivera, as well as brilliant wind arrangements of excerpts from two familiar operas: Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and La Cenerentola (Cinderella) by Gioacchino Rossini.
