Brilliant spanish pianist in recital debut

Javier Perianes, an exceptional young Spanish pianist with a growing international reputation, makes his Sunshine Coast debut with the Coast Recital Society Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt.

Hugely popular with Spanish audiences, Perianes is a pianist of great imagination and a wonderful colourist at the keyboard.

Born in Nerva, Spain in 1978, Perianes was awarded the first prize and gold medal at the 42nd International Competition Premio Jaén de Piano. He is a familiar participant at many renowned festivals within Spain, including those of Santander, Granada, Canarias Perelada and San Sebastián. He has performed in distinguished concert series throughout the world, having made notable appearances in New York's Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amster-dam, the Tchaikovsky Con-servatory in Moscow, the Shanghai Conservatory, Madrid's Auditorio Nacional and Berlin's Konzerthaus.

For his CRS recital, Perianes will perform a program entirely devoted to works by Frédéric Chopin. The program will include several Mazurkas and Nocturnes; the Barcarolle, opus 60, the Ballade #4, opus 52, and the B minor Sonata, opus 58.
