Wednesday, Nov. 30 marks the opening of this year’s Banner Project and Young Artists Awards exhibits. Ten elementary schools are participating in this year’s Banner Project, and a total of 289 entries were received. Of these, 20 have been selected to be made into the full-sized banners. These will be painted by some of the banner participants, their parents and local volunteer artists under the watchful eye of painting coordinator Devon Blean. The Banner Award Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 12:30 p.m. in the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre.
The Young Artist Awards was originally the brain child of Chatelech art teacher Enid Kelly; for the last number of years it has been coordinated by long-time Sunshine Coast Arts Council member, Sheila Page. It is an opportunity for young people aged five to 18 to submit for exhibition work they’ve created outside of school – visual art and three dimensional creations. All submissions are juried by professional artists. This year’s Young Artist Awards reception will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre.
