The Gibsons Live Poets Society presents the inaugural event in their literary series, a reading by award-winning author Tim Bowling on Wednesday, July 8, at 7 p.m.

Bowling will read from his eighth collection of poetry, The Book Collector ($16.95, Nightwood Editions), at the Gibsons Public Library.

Bowling - who is currently living in Edmonton - is a former resident of Gibsons, where he wrote some of the poems featured in this collection. He has garnered both national and international acclaim for his poetry, non-fiction and novels. A recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, his other awards include the Canadian Authors Association National Poetry Prize, the Petra Kenney International Poetry Prize, the Wilfred Eggleston Award for Non-Fiction and the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry. He has also been a finalist for two Governor General's Awards and the Nereus Writers Trust Non-Fiction Prize.

From the salmon fishing grounds to the special collections library, from the vanishing rural world of pheasant hunting and canning along the banks of the Fraser River to the deck of the Titanic and the famous book collector's tragic fate, Bowling's startling and powerful new collection of poems moves seamlessly between the riches of nature and the riches of art.

The Gibsons Live Poets Society was founded to bring Gibsons to the forefront as a literary community and will host poets from around the country in a regular reading series.
