After the tremendous success of the initial Sunshine Coast Idol shows last year at Pack Ratt Louie's Grill, event co-ordinators Verna Chan and Peter Beauchamp have responded to calls for a show to showcase younger talent on the Coast with the first Sunshine Coast Youth Idol!
The event is open to singers aged 13 to 18 and will start with auditions at Sailor Dan's in Gibsons on Tuesday, May 26th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The competition starts June 2 for five weeks with the final night taking place on June 30. Contestants will vie for prizes including scholarship funds and music lessons for their choice of voice or instrument from local instructors.
The show will be hosted by Coast pianist/singer extraordinaire, Chealsea Crawford but, unlike the original SC Idol competition that featured the Idol Guys Band, singers will be accompanied by a solo instrumentalist in the quieter setting of Sailor Dan's which should prove to be less intimidating for the young performers. Singers may also choose to use their own solo accompanist.
