The Sunshine Coast Arts Council, the Rotary Club of Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast Teachers' Association are co-sponsoring the annual Young Artists Awards for 2004. This successful event, now in its 15th year, honours young artists residing on the Sunshine Coast.

Artworks by all participants will be exhibited at the Arts Centre from Nov. 1 to 21. All young artists who participate will be invited to attend a reception in their honour at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre on Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m.

Artists may enter one of four categories: five to eight years old, nine to 12 years old, 13 to 15 years old and 16 to 18 years old.

Each entry must consist of three pieces of original artwork completed independently (at home, not in school) in 2004. Work in any visual arts medium is eligible, including three-dimensional work, photography and video. Entry forms must accompany all submissions; these are available at the Arts Centre (Trail and Medusa) in Sechelt or at schools throughout the lower Sunshine Coast.

Entries will be accepted at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) The final deadline for submissions is 3:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

The work will be juried by a committee of local artists with the following criteria in mind: imagination, originality, use of design elements, craftsmanship and communication. Each year, between $300 and $400 is awarded in all four categories, ranging from $20 to $50 per award.
