Sunshine Coast artists Ursula Fritsch and Janice Williams (Junco Jan) are teaming up for the next exhibit at the Arts Centre in Sechelt, running April 7 to May 12. Both artists see the potential in found objects and in the reuse of non-traditional materials to make art.
Fritsch's collaged works in Abundance display her characteristically brilliant colour palette. In these creations she takes advantage of saved items, her own hand-made papers, fabrics and flowers, all too inspiring to throw away. This collaging is spontaneous and a departure from her previous method of applying materials into preconceived drawing.
Williams' works in Avoidin' Freud: Airhead Art is predominantly paintings and found materials. Her local beachcombing treks provide her with a variety of wood objects, and her observations of contemporary life, from the mundane to the profound, supply her subject matter. Her approach is similar to editorialized cartooning; her bold, lively images are as simple as her satirical commentary is sophisticated, producing paintings that are both insightful and whimsical.
Please join the celebration with the artists on April 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arts Centre in Sechelt. The exhibition is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
