Blues at Boomers
David Boxcar Gates brings his "A game" to Gibsons this Saturday night, Sept. 14, and will astound everyone with a set of true Delta blues. Gates appears at Boomer's Burger Bar in Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons in an event hosted by the Sunshine Coast Blues Society.
His Piedmont blues stylings are drenched with bottleneck slide and alternate finger-picking. Heavily influenced by the Blues forefathers Mississippi John Hurt, Big Bill Broonzy and Mississippi Fred Mcdowell with a ragtime twist, he accompanies himself on the blues harp, mounted to a unique, homemade harmonica rack, constructed out of bicycle and lamp shade parts. Tickets are $15 in advance at Dial A Delivery, Responsible Ride, MELOmania and Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts. Tickets are $20 at the door.
Also at Boomers, a Roots and Blues Jam takes place every Tuesday at 7 p.m. John Tenbear Thompson is host. Find out more on Facebook, at Boomers Roots and Blues Jam page.
