Driftwood Players invites artists of all disciplines (actors, dancers, poets, writers, musicians and visual artists) to bring their work at any stage of its progress for a jam on Thursday, May 16, at Chaster House.
"It's an evening for artists to share their work, from pre-concept to completion stage, while creating a dialogue for optional constructive feedback," said organizer Elisa Jardine, who was inspired for the idea after watching the unity of street dancers in New York gather in support of one another's presentation of experimental movement.
The actor is working with Driftwood Players to develop the artists work-in-progress series to include a variety of disciplines.
"Actors, slam poets, painters or dancers -we express our art through different mediums, but we are all on the same journey of self expression and therefore can learn and be inspired by each other," she said.
The artists' work in progress works for all kinds of disciplines, added Driftwood Players president Sandi McGinnis.
"Having worked in various art forms over the past 40 years, I can really appreciate how someone's questions or constructive feedback can provide fresh insight when you have hit a creative block," said McGinnis.
Respect and sensitivity for the artist wanting feedback are of priority. Specific guidelines for offering constructive feedback will be handed out to participants offering insight.
Artists are encouraged to bring whatever they are working on to the workshop.
Admission is by donation and the public is welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to present can contact Jardine at 604-741-7487 or email [email protected].
