2021 writers’ fest tickets will be hard to come by.

Tickets for this year’s Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts went on sale June 15 and festival artistic and executive director Jane Davidson said that, given the small number of seats currently available, many if not most events would sell out within hours. You never know, so check at writersfestival.ca. There is still a good chance the B.C. government will allow more than 50 people to gather before the festival opens at Sechelt’s Rockwood Pavilion for six consecutive Sundays, starting July 4. More tickets might become available if that does happen, Davidson said. B.C. will announce any increase in the allowable gathering-size in the last week of June. Just in case, maybe get the box office phone number on speed dial: 604-885-9631.

SoulShine

Seats are also selling briskly for Deanna Knight’s series of summer Thursday evening gatherings, the SoulShine Garden Concert Series. The July 1 event with Valdy has sold out, and even the wait list – in anticipation of larger allowable audiences – is full. The Dawn Pemberton concert on Aug. 12 is also selling quickly, Knight said. You can see the full schedule at deannaknight.ca. Access to the concerts is a minimum $25 artist donation, which can be booked at 604-362-1280. An incorrect number was published last week, for which I apologize.

Another time

The Driftwood Players theatre company’s new film, A Visit to Spoon River, opened last week with three scheduled screenings on Zoom. You can now see it anytime on YouTube. It’s an entertaining look at the mentality and morals of a small Midwest U.S. community 100 years ago, as depicted in the fictional anthology by writer Edar Lee Masters. To find the 53-minute video, search on YouTube for Sunshine Coast Driftwood Players.

Live music

Singer-songwriter Eddy Edrik has a busy weekend coming up. He’s playing the patio at the Clubhouse Restaurant at the Pender Harbour Golf Club on Friday, June 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. Edrik then sidles over to John Henry’s Marina & Resort in Garden Bay for a few sets on Saturday, June 19, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Poppa Greg plays the Clubhouse Restaurant on Sunday, June 20, from 2 to 5 p.m.
