The verdant backyard of Secret Beach B & B Suites in Gibsons is the site of the popular SoulStream Garden Concert Series.

The Secret Beach B & B Suites has announced it is powering up its solar-powered stage to host the 2023 SoulShine Garden Concert Series.

This summer’s lineup will feature two Juno Award winners, two Genie Award winners, and rising star Luke Wallace. Kicking it off is the Sunshine Coast’s own Deanna Knight and her Tree-O.

The garden concerts have become a well-loved Gibsons summer tradition with top-quality artists and great sound in an intimate setting. This year the concerts will take place on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. They start on July 26 and run through Aug. 30.

For the first time this year, Good Fridays Gibsons will provide Picnic Graze Boxes for guests' dining pleasure.

Reserve seats at One Flower One Leaf in Lower Gibsons or online at DeannaKnight.eventbrite.com. Donations of $25 and up are suggested.

Coming to a stage (or gazebo) near you

The Sechelt Summer Music Series continues this weekend with two free outdoor concerts at the Hackett Park amphitheatre, from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 22.

The Locals is composed of songwriter, singer and guitarist Robin Atchison plus Nelson Giles (vocals, harmonica, humour) playing original folk and rock.

The Poppa Greg Band will perform next. The group was formed in 2015 and features Poppa Greg on guitar and vocals, "Smiling" Mike West on bass and vocals, and Tim Rannard, drums and vocals. By aligning an unwavering dedication to do-it-yourself ethic with a distinctive talent, Poppa Greg has created a one-of-a-kind sonic landscape. The band is known for its rock, original music and unique covers.

In Gibsons, three groups will assemble over July 21 and 22. At 7 p.m. on Friday, July 21, Peter, Pam and Gary perform at the breakwater gazebo. The group is composed of Peter Hill, Pam Girone and Gary Bowman. ("The group used to be called Corner Table, but nobody knew who that was," said Hill.) Together, they have played music for more than 25 years. They'll begin with the blues, gradually adding iconic standards and pop tunes to the mix. Bring your own chair or blanket.

On Saturday, July 22 at Winegarden Park at 3:30 p.m., Music In The Landing presents the Zigzag Quartet, which features Charlotte Wrinch on vocals and guitar, Anneka Bonser on piano, Boyd Norman on bass and John Rule on drums. The group will play original tunes and cool covers.

On Saturday night at 7 p.m, also in Winegarden Park, Then Ordinary Things performs tumbleweed harmonies mixed with rootsy soul, blended on an acoustic canvas of classic Americana. The ensemble features Simon Paradis, Kaia Neilsen, Paul Dwyer, and Mark Lebell.

Slow Sundays in the Creek this week offers a luxuriant tapestry of local artists: the Beachcombers Ukulele Group Singers will be followed by the Steve Schwabl Collective, featuring Wanda Nowicki playing blues and funky jazz. Slow Sundays take place at the gazebo behind the Roberts Creek Community Library. Watch for upcoming listings and photos at facebook.com/groups/SlowSundaysintheCreek.

Salute to the Seaside Market

The Artisan Seaside Market in Gibsons Landing’s Holland Park is in full swing. The sidewalk market features more than 30 studios specializing in leather goods, ceramics, painting and drawing, printmaking, woodwork, textiles, flowers, jewellery, and papercraft.

Much like a mythical highland village, the market materializes on Saturdays from noon to 4:30 p.m., then disappears until the next week. The cycle continues until end of August.

This year's market also includes multigenerational performing arts and open-ended community art projects.
