The superb pianist Angela Cheng returns to the Coast Recital Society (CRS) this Sunday afternoon, March 17, with a concert at the Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt at 2:30 p.m. There will be a pre-concert chat at 1:30 p.m.

Cheng's program features music by J. S. Bach, Claude Debussy and Fré-déric Chopin.

Consistently praised for her exceptional technique, tonal beauty and outstanding musicianship, Cheng is one of Canada's national treasures.

She was a gold medalist at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, as well as the first Canadian to win the prestigious Montreal International Piano Competition. She has also been awarded the Medal of Excellence for outstanding interpretations of Mozart from the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

"We are fortunate indeed that Angela Cheng has found time in her busy schedule to return to the CRS," said CRS artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright.

"She is a truly wonderful artist, and all her recitals for us over the years have been exceptional occasions," Wainwright said.

In 2012, Cheng made her highly acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut with the Edmonton Symphony and also made her debut at the prestigious Salzburg Summer Festival in recital with violinist Pinchas Zukerman. Her recitals with Zukerman include concerts throughout Europe, South America and Asia. She is also a member of the Zukerman Chamber Players. Recent performances include concerts at the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Schleswig-Holstein and Ravinia festivals.
