Inspired by the moon as a love symbol, the play The Moon and the Other Side of the Honeymoon uses comedy, acting and magic. The play tells stories of disappointment, betrayal and jealousy and their remedies and provokes personal emotions, laughter and musical delight.

This show, created for an adult audience, will be presented on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m., the night of the full moon, at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse. The full moon has long been associated with magic, love and madness. This production honours La Luna, the moon goddess, with stories about love relationships.

Gerardo Avila and Veronica Dahl are the performers of this theatrical and musical show which grew out of romantic songs such as Fly Me to the Moon, Naranjo en Flor, Contigo Aprendi and Paroles, among others. The show also includes theatrical plots such as We Mustn't Complicate Happiness, by Marco Denevi, original poems and personal love relationship experiences. Directed by Michael Fera, this production combines song and dialogue to create the narrative.

Both Avila and Dahl contribute to the show from their great experience in the world of entertainment. Dahl has performed for many years as a musician and composer in Canada and in Argentina. In Vancouver, Canada, she formed the Latin American Group SOLIS, performing at the jazz festival, at musical restaurants such as Zócalo, and at The Latin Quarter. Among her teachers are Tom Todoroff, Nadia Tavakoli, David Smukler and Celso Machado. She has received three first prizes for her literary work and one of her poems forms part of this show.

Avila has been performing professionally since 1974 as a solo clown, mime, magician and story teller. He has been co-director, writer and performer for groups such as Oh Sweet Clown, Electro Tecno Teatro, La Ratatouille and Snake in The Grass Moving Theatre. He has performed original sketches for Cirque du Soleil (1984 and 1987) and collaborated as an actor-director with drumming groups like Uzume Taiko and Katari Taiko, among others. Recently he has performed as a comedy narrator in Karen Flamenco's productions of Romeo and Juliet and Molino Rojo.
