The acclaimed Phoenix Chamber Choir makes its CRS debut this Sunday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2:30 p.m. at the Raven’s Cry Theatre. CRS artistic director Frances Wainwright will host a pre-concert chat at 1:30 p.m. with Phoenix choir director Graeme Langager.

For more than three decades, the exceptional Phoenix Chamber Choir has been known as one of Canada’s finest vocal ensembles. With a reputation for stylistic flexibility and sensitivity, the Phoenix Chamber Choir’s repertoire ranges from the baroque to the contemporary. Concerts have included commissions from Canadian and international composers, North American premieres of significant new compositions, and works in popular and jazz idioms.

Langager is in his third season with Vancouver’s award-winning Phoenix Chamber Choir. He is also Director of Choral Activities at the University of British Columbia School of Music. A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Langager received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has taught at high school, college and university levels in the U.S. and Canada, and is much sought after as a clinician and guest conductor. He is also an active composer and arranger.

Phoenix Chamber Choir was winner and three-time finalist in the European Broadcasting Union’s Let the People Sing competition; 13-time winner at the CBC National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs; choir-in-residence at the Copenhagen Choir Festival and Banff Arts Festival 2000 (Banff Centre for the Arts); and featured performer at the National Conductors’ Symposium and World Symposium on Choral Music.
