Rebecca Fox is 25 years old and has been charming audiences since the age of six when she gave her first performance at a seniors' home. Fox has sung on the world's biggest stages, performing in her current home of Berlin and in New York after studying at the American Music and Dramatic Academy. She has also enjoyed great support and good roles with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto.

Next Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. she will perform at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons in a one-performance only recital, My Music Stand and I. Her producer for the concert, in this case, is her mother, Adrienne Fox of Gibsons, who was also involved in theatre for years and sang with a folk ensemble.

"Rebecca has taken it further than I could," said her mother, and naturally she is proud. She hosted a small soirée at her business, Truffles Café, last December when Rebecca was visiting. The audience, packed into the small coffee shop, were enthusiastic.

"She had a sparkle in her eye and great stage charisma," said Adrienne, who decided to bring her daughter back to Gibsons to perform in a more formal setting.

The singer first found her voice when the musical director of Vancouver's Theatre Under the Stars encouraged her towards musical productions. Her career path has gradually moved her away from her first love, show tunes, and toward opera. Her stint singing with the New York City Opera was one of her most enjoyable experiences.

She is currently working on perfecting her rendition of the role of Rosina in The Barber of Seville by Rossini with the goal of performing at the Placido Domingo World Opera Competition, an event that honours the best new singers of today. In addition to classical music from Donizetti, Tchaikovsky, Massenet and Saint-Saens, she plans on singing the theatre music of Kurt Weill (The Threepenny Opera) and Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story). Her rendition of Harold Arlen's Any Place I Hang My Hat is available for viewing on You Tube.

The Sunday concert will feature local music teacher Tom Kellough at the piano. The two have been holding their rehearsals in an unusual fashion - long distance via Skype. Tickets are $18 or $15 for seniors available in advance at Truffles Café in Gibsons Landing (call 604-886-4545) or at the door if still available.
