A gleeful show in Langdale

Langdale Elementary Glee Club has grown over the five years it has been running.

The fifth annual Langdale Elementary Glee performance was a rousing success for the teachers, the parents and the Langdale PAC that helped mount the show. Most of all it was a success for the kids, grades 4 to 7, who took part in a showcase of their talents.

The first piece in the 45-minute show was cleverly staged. Titled Carousel, it involved all the students in a carnival show, using dance, mime, acrobatics, hoops and a lot of swagger.

A dance duo performed on Skinny Love and the audience heard violin music on El Bale del Puma. It was good to hear some trumpet from an elementary school student and know that learning instruments at a young age has not been forgotten. A young singer, Willow Carriere, was the lead vocalist on Flashlight, a song from Pitch Perfect 2. The talented Willow sang again on Adele’s Hello and was joined by other young songstresses.

Another one of Adele’s compositions, Chasing Pavements, was performed on piano – a lovely piece. The show’s finale was a dramatic reenactment from Star Wars with the bad guys being soundly thrashed by Jedi knights wielding light sabres.

The show drew a comment from teacher Maggie Scott. “Fantastic! We are so proud of them,” she said. “The sets and performances were all student driven, the lights and sound were student assisted with adult mentorship.”

Langdale Elementary has been running this extra-curricular creative arts Glee Club for the last five years, funded by the Langdale PAC, and initiated, organized and facilitated by parent volunteers. Originally a singing group, the annual performances have expanded into solo and duet instrumentals, dancing, acting and musical numbers.
