Deer Crossing the Art Farm is pleased to announce the expansion of the annual Synchronicity Festival.
On Aug. 20 to 21, the Art Farm will host a two-day carnival-like event in Shirley Macey Park in Gibsons featuring live music, an outdoor rainforest circus, an artisans' and farmers' market, children's tent, art installations, food, wine and more.
"Our first Synchronicity Festival was on the Art Farm itself and we pretty much maxed out," said artistic director Chad Hershler. "We realized there are a lot of people who would love to see what we do, but don't want to get in the car to do it, so we thought we'd bring the festival right into the community we are celebrating -a lot more space for a lot more stuff and plenty more surprises for our audiences."
Festival goers can enjoy a free live stage featuring The Colorifics, Mindil Beach Markets, Nir Blu, Skye Wallace, Rocket Lawnchair, Bits of String, Jess Hart and more. Popular local artists, including Nadina Tandy and Todd Clark, will create outdoor art installations on-site.
"Imagine all the creativity and innovation we see in our neighbourhoods, farms and towns packed into Shirley Macey Park for two days in the height of summer," added Hershler. "That's Synchronicity."
He encourages all festival goers to make their way to the event at noon to enjoy the local food and the Synchronicity Market featuring artisans, farmers and progressive local businesses and organizations. Synchronicity plans to be a zero-waste small footprint event. Bikes can be locked up on-site and all cyclists will automatically be entered into a cyclist-only prize draw.
Locals and visitors are encouraged to use the free festival shuttle with pick up points at the B.C. Ferries Langdale terminal, Gibsons Landing, Sunnycrest Mall and down-town Roberts Creek. Parking is also available adjacent to Shirley Macey Park.
Event details, including shuttle schedule, can be found on-line at www.synchronicityfestival.com.
The Art Farm's 2011 Syn-chronicity Festival is a collaborative event in partnership with Sunshine Coast Tourism and VOICE, an emerging non-profit devoted to attracting, retaining and engaging the younger generations on the Sunshine Coast.
