An exciting project has been happening at Ecole du Pacifique since January and it culminates in a craft show and Cabane à Sucre at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt this Saturday (May 5) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Local artist Sa Boothroyd has been teaching a series of classes to the whole school on how to make and sell crafts. Focusing primarily on printmaking onto textiles, the students learned how to make their own printing blocks and then produced a line of kitchen textiles, as well as coasters and magnets.

The classes were pretty fun to watch, there was a lot of action as up to 24 kids at a time painted up their wood blocks with fabric paint and stamped out their designs onto tea towels place mats and table napkins The results were amazing and all the kids' crafts will be on sale at the show with profitsgoing back into the parent advisory council.

The kids with adult supervision will primarily run Saturday's event. There will be a bake sale, cake walk, silent auction as well as the annual Cabane à Sucre where you roll a stick in the maple syrup poured out onto snow.Organizers hope that the kids will not only have learned to make the crafts, but that the older ones will have some insight into the business aspect of being a craftsperson.

This fundraising event will also help the school pay for more school outings like this year when students were treated to four days of snowshoeing at Dakota Ridge.
