The Sunshine Coast Labour Council cordially invites you and your family to join them at the annual Labour Day Picnic, from noon to 4 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 3 at Dougall Park in Gibsons.

Come out and enjoy the sun and the fun in summer's last blast. Renew old acquaintances and make new friends.

Burgers, hot dogs, corn-on-the-cob and refreshments are free for all. There will be face painting, balloons, a Bouncy Castle and the infamous pie eating contest for the kids. On stage entertainment will include Denise Olson, Clay Hepburn and Local Voices. The Story Theatre will captivate young and old alike in the gazebo. Information tables from Coastal organizations will invite picnic goers to browse various issues of concern.

There will be a 50/50 draw, the proceeds of which will go to support the Homeless Outreach Program which works to assist Coastal people who are homeless to find immediate short-term accommodation with the longer-term goal of helping them find safe, secure housing.

The Labour Council is working towards the goal of zero waste for the event and is pleased to work with EcoSafe Zero Waste, a Surrey-based company, and two new locally owned companies, Grayco Disposal and Salish Soils, to help achieve that goal, protecting our environment and keeping jobs on the Coast.

While there will be compostable plates and cups available, the Labour Council encourages picnic goers to bring their own reuseable plates and cups. Working together we can achieve a sustainable planet.

The weather looks good and there will be fun for all.
