Festivities for all ages - the season's music, stories and sweets; making wishes, nature crafts and memories; wreaths, stories and photos with a zany Santa - Woodland Christmas this Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Sparling Pavilion of the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden will launch the holidays with back-to-nature delight.
The Garden is at 5941 Mason Road in Sechelt. Admission is by donation.
From 3 to 6 p.m., as darkness falls and thousands of lights begin to twinkle in the woods, share the magic with friends old and new.
Children and the young-at-heart can make a tiny living tree to take home.
DJ "little d" spins tunes both traditional and extraordinary, Santa will bring his infamous ho-ho-ho, and dear Grandma June will tell stories as no one else can. Sculptor Irene Bremer will show her nature-themed pieces. You will want to write a wish, greeting or blessing to hang on the Wish Tree, another meaningful way to keep tradition.
The woodland faeries have been busy baking loaves, bars and cookies for the holiday bake sale, and the elves have made our famous sprigs-and- twigs living wreaths and other hand-crafted decorations for purchase. Holiday décor for Woodland Christmas uses many materials available from Nature.
The Garden's Winter Lights show will continue Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 5 to 8 p.m., the perfect chance to share winter's enchantment with those special to you. Admission is by donation. Bring family and friends to enjoy a radiant evening with thousands of twinkly lights, add your wishes to the Wish Tree, and have a cup of warm apple cider. Special guests the Driftwood Players will perform a 15-minute version of A Christmas Carol Dec. 18 at 7 and 7:45 p.m.
