What’s needed to keep the Heritage Playhouse going

More than ever, the Heritage Playhouse needs financial support

As 2021 draws to a close, we find that COVID-19 is still deeply affecting our community in many ways. It continues to change the lives of our seniors, our children, families, local businesses and services.

The Heritage Playhouse, operated by Gibsons Landing Heritage Society (GLHS) is no exception, as the playhouse was forced to close to the public a second time, from Nov. 2020 until July 1, 2021, when we were finally opened to a reduced capacity audience.

The playhouse still has monthly obligations, such as insurance and utilities to fulfill and was also the victim of vandalism and theft of our sound system; its replacement was an unexpected expense. We have been able to rent out the playhouse occasionally for live-streaming, video production and rehearsals (all without an audience) and the Sunshine Coast Foundation gave us a small grant for expenses, but it’s been a struggle.

Now, as we gradually return to a pre COVID-19 way of life, we look forward to seeing the Heritage Playhouse as once again a vibrant venue for our dancers, singers, musicians, actors and story tellers. We are finally permitted full capacity, although we understand the public’s reluctance to embrace the pre-COVID-19 conditions; be assured that we require proof of vaccination and a mask for everyone.

In the meantime, the Heritage Playhouse more than ever needs your financial support, no matter how small, to remain a vital part of our community. We also remind you that now is the time of year to consider the gift of securities that GLHS is able to gratefully accept.

Any donation over $25 will receive a tax receipt and our sincere gratitude. Please visit the Heritage Playhouse at heritageplayhouse.com, email [email protected], or call 604-886-8998.
