Volunteers needed for Christmas campaign

Generosity is like kindling a yule log - it lights up lives and gives warmth.

The Elves Club, a non-profit registered charity, has been collecting and distributing Christmas hampers on the lower Sunshine Coast since prior to their incorporation in 1972. Last year 760 hampers were given.

Through the years many families have received a little extra during the Christmas season, helping them through when things were tough.

Hundreds of community volunteers, along with many of those family members, join together each year, working together to help produce and deliver hampers the Saturday before Christmas to those in need.

This year the delivery date for hampers is Saturday, Dec. 17.

Volunteers are needed in a few key areas. They include: a typist (a few) with Excel experience on a computer for application work and volunteers to man the depot in Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons. Call 604-886-7743 for more details. Hamper construction is on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Christian Life Assembly Church in Gibsons at 730 School Rd. Box night is late afternoon and evening on Thursday, Dec. 15, and hamper building on Friday, Dec. 16, when volunteers will put together groceries and gifts all day. People are needed to move items to the church and sort donations at the church.

And on Saturday, Dec. 17, delivery day drivers are needed as well as a clean-up crew.

Those unable to volunteer are encouraged to donate to the Elves Club during their annual telethon which will be broadcast live from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, from the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons on Coast TV.
