The Sunshine Coast VegFest was held Aug. 8 at Roberts Creek Community Hall. A capacity crowd attended the all-day event that celebrated a “planet-friendly, healthy, plant-based lifestyle.” The festival  featured cooking demonstrations, exhibitors, live music, activities for kids, and first-class speakers including Gene Baur, “the conscience of the food movement,” from California.

As well as promoting vegan food choices and holistic nutrition, the displays included animal-friendly, non-leather footwear from Nice Shoes, the Happy Herd Farm Sanctuary, Gibsons Wildlife Rehab Centre, and the smiling crew from Sea Shepherd (from left): Darren Sacher, Roy Sasano, Darren Chang, Sue Waters and Stephanie Chevrier.

Sea Shepherd is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “conserve and protect ecosystems and species” in the world’s oceans.
