Join the Sunshine Coast in Transition (SCiT) initiating team and learn about community currencies next Friday, Feb. 28 with a presentation by Bruno Vernier.

Vernier has been studying international currencies and connecting with many currency experts, including Bernard Lietaer, an originator of the Euro, and Michael Linton, a community currency pioneer. The evening will also be a good opportunity to connect with people interested in the Transition movement on the Coast. It starts at 6 p.m. at Wheatberries Bakery, 818 Gibsons Way.

Transition Towns is a global movement supporting community-led responses to climate change and shrinking supplies of cheap energy.

The Coast Car Co-op (CCC) are preparing for their first vehicle launch on March 1 at the Gibsons Public Market, 473 Gower Point Road, starting at 11 a.m.

Included in their first set of three vehicles is a compact hybrid. Their goal is to add a full electric vehicle to the fleet within the first 18 months of launching cars. Membership numbers will help determine how soon they can add additional car share vehicles.

For information contact them at [email protected], call 778-374-3092, or check out the website at http://www.coastcarco-op.ca/.

The CCC was born out of the last year's Ignite entrepreneurial training program sponsored by the FUSE Community Work Hub.

This year Ignite will focus on local food and agriculture start-ups. If you are a farmer, a chef, or a food entrepreneur with a business idea you think could help our local food economy then you may wish to apply. See the FUSE website at http://fuseworkhub.ca/ignite/ for details. The application deadline is March 3.

If you'd like me to mention your event, please email the details to [email protected] or phone, 604-886-0415. This column is published every second week of the month throughout the year.
