Next Friday, Nov. 18, the Royal Astronomical Society (RASC) presents Adventures in Telescope Design at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre with long time RASC Vancouver member Craig Breckenridge.
Senior designer at Coquitlam-based Dynamic Structures, Breckenridge is a self-described "astronomy nut" who has the dream job of designing and constructing telescopes for a living, including the gargantuan 30-metre telescope and other massive structures. (Check it out at: www.tmt.org.)
Dynamic's extensive experience in the construction of huge telescopes for observatories in Hawaii, Chile and the Canary Islands has earned them an international reputation for excellence and given Breckenridge the opportunity to work on world-class ventures.
He will talk about past and current projects in telescope design and more. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m. There will be a short meeting at 7:30 followed by the presentation at 8. Seating is limited. Open to the public. Admission is by donation. See more at www.coastastronomy.ca.
