Strange things will be happening at the Sechelt Public Library this summer.
Starting on Tuesday, June 19, children aged five to 10 can register for a free summer reading program Strange But True, and receive their registration package containing the official reading record, bookmark and program instructions.
During the summer children will read wonderful books, take part in games and activities, receive great prizes, win books and T-shirts and an official summer reading medal. As well they will enjoy three thrilling performers - puppeteer Sandy Buck, magician Gerardo Avila and storyteller and dancer Jean-Pierre Makosso.
Regular reading during the summer helps kids maintain or even improve their reading and literacy skills, and studies show that voluntary reading is the number one factor in establishing good reading habits. Summer Reading Club makes reading fun, and the expert staff at the library can help kids find just the right book or magazine from among a wide variety of library materials.
