Students choose to help refugees

Bake Sale

Michelle Smart’s kindergarten class at West Sechelt Elementary held a bake sale on Dec. 11 to raise money for Syrian refugees coming into Canada. They brought in $362.

“It was great, the bake sale went really well,” Smart said.

The class has been learning about the Syrian refugee crisis, and one of the students, Eloise Bolander, came up with the idea of holding a bake sale.

The Christian Life Assembly (CLA) in Gibsons is currently trying to bring a refugee family to the Coast. Smart said her class would donate the money they raised to the CLA’s cause if they are successful in bringing a family here.

Otherwise, they will donate the money to refugee aid in B.C., though the class would prefer the funds they raised stay on the Coast.
