A free outdoor concert event will be hosted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of the District of Sechelt on Thursday, June 30.

The concert will be held at Civic Square (behind the Seaside Centre) starting at 7 p.m. If the weather is inclement, the event will be moved inside the Seaside Centre.

Two local groups are scheduled to perform: The Muffdusters, a folk genre group, and The Rakish Angles, a quartet with backgrounds in classical, bluegrass, jazz and heavy metal.

In addition to music, there will be free refreshments.

"Council wanted to focus on celebrating this milestone in the District's history with a focus on local music and making use of popular public venues that have become part of the District in the past 25 years," said Mayor Darren Inkster in a news release. "Civic Square is a great location for an evening concert with the services of our downtown being located close by, and with ample parking, celebration space and amenities like washrooms available in nearby District buildings.

"The timing of the concert is aimed at extending the Canada Day weekend events forward. The Sechelt Downtown Business Association is not hosting a Thursday Night Market on June 30, so the concert will fill a gap in downtown activity on that date. We encourage residents of all ages to come to the event and to help celebrate the District's 25th anniversary."
