The Rotary Club of Sechelt is celebrating this year's Academy Awards with its inaugural Oscars Eve party at Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt on Saturday, March 1, starting at 8 p.m.
This fundraising event will feature a taste of Northern Divine caviar and some fine B.C. sparkling wine, pairings of delicious B.C. red and white wines with savoury appetizers from local restaurants and chefs, music and dancing, a red carpet where you can dress up like a movie star and be admired by the many onlookers, and lots and lots of prizes.

The Rotary Club has chosen this theme to engage Sunshine Coasters to have fun while contributing to improving the quality of life in our community. The net proceeds of this event will be shared to serve the needs of both youth and the aging members of the community.
Each year the Rotary Club of Sechelt will donate proceeds of the event to the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society. The club recognizes that the need for this service is in a steep growth period. Understanding that the cost of a person staying in the hospital is 10 times more than staying in a hospice facility at the end of life is not only a huge financial burden to the system, it is very much an emotional time that is not conducive to the sterile environment of a hospital bed.
At the opposite end of the spectrum are our youth. Each year the Rotary Club of Sechelt will seek out a youth organization looking for support for a capital initiative that brings increased enrichment to the youth. This year the Club has selected the work of the West Sechelt Elementary School playground committee. For four years this group has worked diligently to gain the support of the community to bring a greater asset to the children at the school as well as the community at large.
